BrainCo was founded in 2015 by Bicheng Han while he was a PhD student at Harvard's Center for Brain Science, and develops non-invasive brain-computer interface products from headquarters in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, with an office in Somerville, Massachusetts. Its BrainRobotics division created what it describes as the world's first brain-computer interface smart prosthetic hand, named to Time magazine's 100 Best Inventions of 2019 and cleared by the US FDA as a Class II medical device in September 2022. Its five-fingered hands are now sold to humanoid robot makers as well as amputees, with buyers including Unitree Robotics and Leju Robotics.
