Open Bionics Robots
Open Bionics was founded in Bristol in 2014 by Joel Gibbard and Samantha Payne, both later appointed MBE for their work in prosthetics. Its Hero Arm, released in May 2018 after four years of development, is the world's first medically certified 3D-printed bionic arm and the first multi-grip bionic arm available to children as young as eight. The company has since launched the Hero RGD and Hero PRO, and raised £4.6 million in 2019 to expand into the United States.
