Canonical robot record
Overview
DEX-EE is a three-finger dexterous robot hand engineered for high-cycle machine learning research and autonomous manipulation, developed by Shadow Robot in collaboration with Google DeepMind. Each modular, user-replaceable finger has four joints driven by five motors in an N+1 tendon configuration with a 10 kHz force control loop, giving active compliance; the 3-fingered hand weighs 4.1 kg, measures 350 mm in length, and exerts at least 8 N at the fingertip.
Each finger carries 155 sensor channels plus video from the distal tactile sensor, which uses a stereo camera pair viewing the inside of a silicone skin; optional multi-taxel 3-DOF tactile modules fit the middle and proximal phalanges. Two configurations are sold — the symmetric DEX-EE and the human-like DEX-EE Chiral — with EtherCAT communications, native ROS integration, and a 48 V 200 W supply.
RoboZaps maintains this record as part of its canonical robotics database. Specs are source-verified where linked; the record compares public facts across manufacturers rather than representing a single robot maker.
